Why would you build a RAG system over a much larger closed-book model if you cannot guarantee higher accuracy?

While accuracy is important, the primary value proposition of RAG is the ability to trace generated claims back to specific source documents. A closed-book model, regardless of size, cannot provide this level of transparency. By framing the system around attribution, you provide a mechanism for verification that is essential for trust, even if the base model’s raw knowledge is already high.
